A Walk With Me
“Were you there when He rose up from the dead? Were you there when He rose up from the dead? Oh-oh! Ohhh… Sometimes I feel like shouting 'Glory, glory, glory!' Were you there when He rose up from the dead?”
It’s been a long and happy day. The business of the day is done, and I’ve come home from the office. I’m going on a walk now. Will you come with me?
As I walk, all my plans and goals seem to evaporate into the pleasantness of the great outdoors. I climb a hill… I’m tired now, so I stop a minute to consider the monument I see. It’s a rough, wooden cross, stained with blood. There it stands alone; a silent witness to a battle fought and won: “The Battle for My Soul”. The longer I stand and look, the more convinced I find myself. I. Am. Loved. Others pass by me on the hill without a pause or a sign of recognition. They cannot see that something beautiful has happened here! They belong to the world. Business, pleasure, and pain will rule their lives forever, but as for me —I am not my own! I am bought with a price. (1 Cor. 6:19-10)
The sun is setting, and I must go. I’m sorry to leave, but at the foot of the hill I find an even greater treasure! A tomb standing so empty; so silent. No death can reign in this place. No sorrow. No crying. No pain. I seem to hear a voice shouting triumphantly, “It is finished!” I think of my life; so different than the lives of the people walking past me. So full of joy! So full of peace. And I know that it started here. That I was born in this tomb.
I go home, but the memory of my walk stays with me. Tomorrow I’ll face the world again. The people, the pleasures, the business, the pain. I can’t hide myself away! I’m called to be a light! But, oh! Lord Jesus, keep me close to Calvary.
“King of my life, I crown thee now.
Thine shall the glory be.
Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary.”
