All-Sufficient God

It was a campaign season, and I was having a great time working for Delegate Dave LaRock. Going door-to-door, getting chewed out by voters here and there, reminding people to vote for the delegate…feeling embarrassed by the holes in the toes of my once beautiful sneakers. I had spent way too much on them once upon a time, and now they were old, worn out, and gave me a clear view of my socks.

The problem was, I didn’t have the money to just go and buy another pair of sneakers. I wasn’t working full time, and my budget was not looking good! I thought maybe I could spend $10 or $15, at the most. I also knew that my feet were only happy in Nikes. Every other brand I had tried hurt or was just plain uncomfortable.

Well, I want you to know, I had a lot of faith! I prayed and asked the Lord to help me find Nikes for $10 or $15. I thought possibly I might be able to find them at Ross or Marshall’s, but if I did, it would be a huge miracle!

That day, instead of driving me to Marshall’s or Ross, my mom decided to take me to the Nike store. My heart sank. There was no possibility for my miracle to happen at the Nike store! As I was standing there staring at the racks of shoes, a nice lady came up and asked me what I was shopping for. We began talking, and it turned out that she was actually an executive from Nike’s corporate office who was just checking up on this particular Nike store.

I told her all about my old shoes. I had owned them for a year and a half, I bought them from Off Broadway, etc.

Suddenly she said, “Would you mind if I trade  your old shoes for new ones?” Oh, sure! I wouldn’t mind that at all! I walked out of that store wearing new shoes, without having paid one dollar.

That’s the Father I have. It would’ve been so easy for the Lord to answer my prayer, but He wanted to go above and beyond what I asked. He didn’t want me to even have to spend $10. He wanted to show me how much He loves me. “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19) This verse is about so much more than finances! Are all your needs financial?

Do you need:

   -Grace?

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the      throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” -Heb. 4:16

  -Guidance?

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not.” -James 1:5

  -A family?

“Houses and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.” -Pr. 19:14

“He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children.” -Ps. 113:9

“A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families:” -Ps. 68:5, 6

My list could go on and on! He will “supply ALL your need.” Don't be afraid to ask God for the little things, and the big things in life. He loves to be asked, and you can be sure that if it's what’s best for you, your Heavenly Father will not withhold any good thing! (Psalm 84:11)
