“Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon His name.”
-Malachi 3:16
In 2019, I took some time to visit my dad’s birth country, Guatemala. My friends and I were hiking down Volcan Pacaya, a fiery active volcano, when I heard something remarkable. One of my friends was witnessing to the tour guide as he hiked. To him, talking about Jesus is as natural as breathing.
We live in a culture that says, “it’s okay to be a Christian. Just keep it to yourself.” If you google, “what topics should I not talk about,” Google has the answer! It says, “Never ask people about finances, politics, religion, death, age and appearance.” Another search result said that you should never talk about religion “to avoid making people uncomfortable.”
Oh no! Making people uncomfortable would be horrible! I can’t tell them that I know the answer to their heartache! I know they’ll end up in Hell, but whatever makes them happy is okay with me. It would be mean of me to make them uncomfortable. It would be wrong for me to mention Jesus at work. I’m not allowed to mention Jesus at school. I’m just following the rules of society! I’m loving other people as they are. I’m being a kind person!
I’m watching my neighbors go to the lake of
fire, and I don’t care.
It’s worse than that, though. When we keep our love for Jesus to ourselves, is it really love? A person who loves golf, will somehow direct every conversation back to their favorite topic: golf. When we have a friend who’s in love, somehow the name of their love interest gets worked into every thought they have. The same is true of those who are in love with Jesus. He’s part of their conversation. He’s in all their thoughts. They spontaneously start witnessing as they’re checking out at the store, hanging out in a restaurant, or even hiking down a volcano. They have a favorite topic: Jesus.
Today in Heaven, the Lord is writing in His journal, “Molly and Sarah were talking about Me today. It made me feel so loved. John kept turning His thoughts to me all day. He delighted my heart.”
Wow! What a great reflection!!!!!!! Keep it up Gabby!! How can we say we love Jesus if we keep it to ourselves!? The way of the cross is not comfortable but it’s the way to true everlasting life.
